This course is specifically aimed at personnel who will be acting as Marine Mammal Observers (MMOs) on seismic surveys in UK waters. The induction course introduces the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) Guidelines for minimising the risk of disturbance and injury to marine mammals from seismic surveys and the principles and practice of seismic surveying. The course content aims to equip MMOs with all the necessary knowledge to fulfill this role effectively, including the implementation of the JNCC guidelines, the reporting requirements, and the identification of marine mammals.  This is the original MMO training course; it is continually updated (the latest update includes the June 2009 revision of the JNCC guidelines and recording forms) and is now in its fourteenth year. The UK MMO induction course has been reviewed and accepted by the JNCC.

Who can do the course?

Anyone - there are no prerequisites for the course as the course content assumes no prior knowledge or experience.  The course is presented in English, so delegates should have sufficient understanding of the English language to follow the presentation and complete the practice examples.

Delegates receive:

• A course manual and comprehensive resource pack on CD
• A course certificate
• Attendance recorded on a register forwarded to JNCC
• Post-training support available
